01 — Overview
A 50 cc scooter pared down for short trips such as commuting, school runs and shopping. Built in Japan, it sold for 59,800 yen and weighed just 39 kg dry. Its newly developed air-cooled four-stroke OHV single used a high-speed plated cylinder, among other measures, to cut engine weight by 40 percent.

02 — Historical Context
HISTORICAL CONTEXT
According to Suzuki, the part count was cut by about 30 percent and the number of bolted joints by about half compared with its most basic existing scooter. Engines were assembled at the Hamamatsu head-office plant and vehicles at the Toyokawa plant. The Society of Automotive Engineers of Japan lists it among its Landmarks of Japanese Automotive Technology.
2000s — Fuel injection and electronics became the norm, big scooters filled city streets and uses diversified.
